Green Mountain College operates a 25-acre on-campus farm. Run by students,
Cerridwen Farm has a two-acre market garden, an assortment of friendly livestock,
two working draft oxen, a unique rotational-grazing program, an extensive composting
system in conjunction with dining services, and a greenhouse powered by sun and
wind. Located at the south end of campus, the farm permeates the entire community.
The local foods initiatives in the dining hall are also part of the project.
Roughly 13 percent, or $60,000, of the annual food budget goes to local foods,
with expansions of the program planned in the coming years. The initiatives
are integrated into the curriculum at the college as well, educating students
about the global impact of personal decisions such as diet.
