What is the Average Financial Aid Package for First Year Students? What are the deadlines?
During the 2007-2008 academic year, over 90 percent of GMC undergraduate students received some type of assistance. The average GMC grant/scholarship offered to the class of 2011 was $12,600, with the average package (including aid from all sources) totaling $22,073. The range of grants for this class was $1,000 to $34,288.
All eligible students are encouraged to apply for financial aid. For first-year students applying for admission in Spring 2008, the priority deadline to complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is November 1, 2007. For first-year students applying for admission in Fall 2008, the priority deadline to complete and submit the FAFSA is March 1, 2008.
If I'm accepted, may I defer my admission? How do I reactivate my file?
Applicants who have been notified of their admission to Green Mountain College may request that their admission be deferred for up to one year. Students who plan to work or travel, or whose personal circumstances otherwise require a delay in entering Green Mountain College, will be permitted to defer their admission. An applicant may not defer admission while attending another post-secondary institution.
Applicants must reactivate their files within a year, or the application becomes invalid. Any academic coursework undertaken during the interim period must be documented. Applicants are encouraged to submit additional materials to support their application file. To reactivate a deferred or withdrawn application, contact the Admissions Office.
Are minimum GPA or minimum test scores required for admission?
There is no minimum GPA and there are no minimum SAT or ACT scores set as a condition of admission. While both your transcripts and your test scores will play an important role in your admissions decision, we believe there is more to you than the sum of two numbers. Your letters of recommendation and personal statement will play a very important role, as will any supplemental materials you wish to provide.
What are your policies regarding the new SAT?
Green Mountain requires that students submit test scores for either the SAT or
ACT. While more consideration is given to a student's transcripts than his or
her test scores, we prefer to base our decision on all information available.
The Writing Section for the SAT I is not required for applicants, but if it is
submitted, it will be reviewed with the same weight as the other sections of
the SAT. Standardized test scores are not the most important factor in
our admissions decisions, but should be considered among the very important
factors.
Is an interview required?
Interviews are encouraged for all prospective students, but not required. During interviews, prospective students can expect to discuss academics, extracurricular activities, leadership and service experience, and other dimensions of their personality. Prospective students should also regard the interview as a personalized information session. This is your opportunity to ask tough questions you will use to determine if Green Mountain is the right fit for you.
Students with major discrepancies between transcripts and SAT scores may be required to interview with an admissions counselor or meet with the Calhoun Learning Center as a condition for admission.
What is the total enrollment?
750 students come from 39 states and 14 different countries. The student body is 51% female and 49% male.
What is the application fee?
For students applying for admission using the paper application, the application fee is waived before February 15, 2008. Thereafter, the application fee of $30 will apply.
For students applying for admission using the electronic application available on our website or through the Common Application website, the application fee is always waived.
