Resourceful by nature
To describe Nicole Delong as ambitious might be a vast understatement. Since discovering her passion for non-profit management, the senior from Fairfield, Connecticut has loaded herself up with a double major in environmental studies and environmental management, a minor in business and economics, several key internships, campus leadership positions, and a work-study job in development that gives her front-line experience.

Though Nicole has always had many interests, it wasn’t until she took a class on managing non-profit organizations a year ago that she discovered what she really wanted to do with her future. She spent the following summer in California working as a Development Intern for the Parents Television Council, a nonpartisan non-profit organization that works with elected and appointed government officials to enforce broadcast decency standards. The summer job gave her a good taste of what it would really be like to work in this type of position, and she fell in love.

When she returned to GMC the following semester looking to further her experience in the field, she landed a work study position in Green Mountain College’s Development Office under the guidance of alumni and annual fund director, Jennifer Schriber. “It’s been a great job with great mentoring,” Nicole says. She says the job has allowed her to build her skills with the online database system for the office. Just recently, her professional aspirations got yet another boost when Nicole was awarded a scholarship to attend a four-day development conference sponsored by CASE, the leading higher education association for development, in New York City.

Now Nicole has her mind set on working for Green Corp, a group that works with Non-Profit Organizations and offers training for aspiring environmental leaders. She is also deeply invested in the campus community and serves as Vice President of Club Activism, which, among other things, helps students organize and attend rallies and protests. She loves her role as an activist and works to encourage others to do the same. “If someone comes in with a great passion for something,” she smiles, “we give them the money and resources they need to do it.”
