Meet Some Of Our Transfer Students

Major: Philosophy

Hometown: Montpelier, Vermont

Why did you choose Green Mountain: I had spent a year going to school in the city and didn't feel wholly satisfied or happy. I realized that, for me, an education needs to consist of strong academic work coupled with environmental engagement. I also really wanted a school that would provide me with farm experience. Green Mountain was the school that was able to provide me with all the things that I wanted in regards to my person and my academic desires.

What do you like best about Green Mountain: I think that one of the most valuable things that I have gained from GMC are the relationships with the professors. It is nice to be able to have relationships with the professors that inspire conversation and talk outside of the classroom. My professors at GMC know my name, my interests and directions and are willing to talk to me when I need them.

Favorite part of the day: I do my work-study job on the campus farm. The best part of my day, by far, is feeding the sheep during morning chores. I generally haven't talked to anyone before I get out there and it is nice to have my first interactions be with the sheep. Perhaps it is because they are eager for a meal, but they are always incredibly glad to see someone and it's nice to have them greet me in the morning.

Best part of living in Vermont: I think that there is an incredibly valuable small town air that hasn't left Vermont. I think that when you couple the sense of community with the beauty of the seasons, there isn't any place finer to be.

Plans for after college: Dance, make art, collect a generous amount of dirt under my finger nails and calluses on my palms. I'd like to open a school and teach children. I think that the best way to make change is to inspire children--though it always seems as though I get more inspiration from them.
