Meet Some Of Our Transfer Students
Major: Sociology
Hometown: Sag Harbor, NY
Why did you choose Green Mountain? I chose GMC because of a very diverse student body and for its very personable staff. I was also attracted to the hands-on programs, which is something that helps me to learn.
What do you like best about GMC? The small community at GMC because, unlike a larger school, creates the opportunity for people to connect with each other. It also provides a very personal relationship between the teachers and students, which is hard to find elsewhere. I have transferred twice already and one of the major differences I noticed between GMC and the schools I transferred from was the relationship between student and faculty was very close. Never before would I consider calling a teacher by their first name but here I have found that it is favored.
Favorite part of the day? I enjoy all parts of the day.
Best thing about Vermont? I feel that GMC is very open to alternative perspectives on life because the people here are so diverse and open to ideas. A perfect example would be the use of cow power on campus, which is a very alternative method of generating energy. There are not many other colleges that would consider using this method to generate energy, but that is what is so unique about GMC. It is open to alternative ideas that range from organically grown food on the farm to generating power from renewable resources.
What is your favorite GMC moment? Personally I do not think there is just one moment that I favor to capture GMC. In the short time I have been here I have had many favorable moments such as winning soccer games, hanging out with friends and just enjoying the whole experience. Together all these things create the atmosphere that makes this campus special.
